Starting the Raku Kiln

Our Raku kiln has a round shelf that is supported by three long and skinny bricks.

We carefully load the kiln, ensuring that none of the pieces touch each other.

If they touch, the molten glaze will stick, which
makes removing the pieces very difficult.
(Molten glaze is very sticky.)

The flame from the torch blows under this shelf and is diverted, and spread out into a "V," with firebricks.

It's very important to try and make the flame spread out uniformly beneath the shelf.
